Always for Pleasure 2017 – November 16 to 19
Our annual exhibition event, highlighting work from the preceding year of Court 13 Arts-supported programming, is a singular celebration combining elements of film and music festivals with the bacchanalian spirit of Carnival. Always for Pleasure (AFP) 2017 is will showcase new work from our first round of artist residencies, and will be developed in close collaboration with the surrounding neighborhoods to be an inclusive multi-day event.
Always for Pleasure Festival
Our flagship event arose from our collective desire to keep making new art and to keep making new celebrations. AFP 2014 and 2015 happened in various pop-up locations around the New Orleans area, including local bars, warehouse spaces, parades in the streets, an old French Quarter estate, and a former pawn shop. Now, with our permanent headquarters secured, future AFPs will have a home, and will also include satellite events around the city.
In 2008, then-Court 13 was operating out of an old school-turned artist studio space in New Orleans. This would culminate in our first group exhibition, “Saints of Atlantis” (showcasing a gussied up version of the raft from “Glory at Sea, among other work). In 2013, Court 13 was invited to show a retrospective of work from Beasts of the Southern Wild and other film and video projects at the Contemporary Arts Center. The show, “Beyond Beasts: The Art of Court 13” ran from March 8 to June 16, 2013.
